With finals week just around the corner, you are going to need the proper music to study to. Whether you are in the mood to rock out or a mood to zone out, we have a versatile list of musicians that we recommend you check out. We at Blue Devil Productions have put together a list of the top 5 up-and-coming music artists that you probably have not heard of. All of these artists you can check out on Spotify and YouTube.

5. Saint Motel

Saint Motel is an indie pop band with 2,585,849 monthly listeners and 375,256 followers on Spotify. The band was formed in 2007 by pianist/vocalist A.J. Jackson and guitarist Aaron Sharp. Their debut album, Voyeur, released in 2012 and their title track from their My Type EP rose in the Billboard alternative charts in 2014, with their most popular song: “Move.” Saint Motel has a retro and cheerful sound. Their songs are very catchy and are easy to dance to. So, if you ever need to boost your mood or bust a move, Saint Motel is the right artist for you.


Mike Nelson, who settled on BANNERS as a stage name, is an indie rock artist with 3,099,396 monthly listeners and 241,380 followers on Spotify. In 2015, his U.S. debut, “Start a Riot” launched his music career with 59 million streams on Spotify. Both “Shine a Light” and “Start a Riot” were feature on a five-track debut that was released in 2016. This EP found its place on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart. BANNERS music is melodic and typically upbeat. He has a fair share of more relaxed tunes that contain powerful lyrics. BANNERS is an ideal artist for those who want to relax or chill.

3. Oh Wonder

Oh Wonder is an alternative R&B/Electropop duo with 7,486,606 monthly listeners and 883,251 followers on Spotify. Songwriters Anthony West and Josephine Vander Gucht released their first album, Oh Wonder, in 2015. They quickly became a viral sensation and eventually reached the Top 30 in the U.K. and Canada. Additionally, they were at number 8- on the Billboard 200 in the U.S. Their second album, Ultralife, released in 2017 and reached as high as number 8 in the U.K. Oh Wonder has a harmonic and airy tone to most of their songs that tend to relate to romance and friendship. This is another band that is ideal for when you need to relax or get into your feels.

2. The Unlikely Candidates

The Unlikely Candidates is an alternative rock band with 893, 974 monthly listeners and 96,950 followers on Spotify. Named as “Artist of the Month” by FOX Sports and MLB, this band has over 8.2 million Spotify streams and is among the Top 40 at Alternative Radio. Their most memorable songs are “Oh My Dear Lord”, “Best I Ever Had”, and “Your Love Could Start a War”. The Unlikely Candidates have toured with The Offspring, The Dirty Heads, and Fall Out Boy. This band, consisting of Kyle Morris, Brent Carney, Cole Male, Jared Hornbeck and Kevin Goddard, has a bold and powerful sound. Most songs are energetic and electric. If you are in the mood for a pick-me-up or something to rock out to, The Unlikely Candidates is the right band for you.

1. The Score

The Score is an alternative rock duo with 3,762,467 monthly listeners and 508,100 on Spotify. Their full-length debut album, ATLAS, released in 2017 and reached number 18 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. The duo’s first single, “Oh My Love”, released in 2015 and became licensed for multiple high-profile commercials such as Starbucks and ASDA. After their 2018 tour they returned to write more songs that exhibited heavier rock in their 2019 Pressure album. The Score consists of Eddie Anthony and Edan Dover. Their music is versatile and fun. For those who like bold rock and electro-rock, this a good band to check out.
