Luau History

At Blue Devil Productions, our mission is primarily to serve the University of Wisconsin-Stout as a campus-wide programming board that researches, selects, and produces events and activities; which most commonly include music, comedy, films and homecoming. Ninety-five percent of our events are free, and any one is welcome to attend 100 percent of our events.

Our secondary sub-point within our mission, and equally as important, is to provide events and activities to enhance the students’ educational experience while at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Just recently, there have been concerns regarding the cultural appropriateness of our voted upon theme. After hearing these concerns, Blue Devil Productions took the opportunity to learn more about the Hawaiian and Polynesian culture tied to the “When in Doubt – Luau at Stout” theme.

Blue Devil Productions highly encourages others to also learn and gain a better understanding of the history and culture of the Luau, and Hawaiian and Polynesian cultures. As a student-run organization, we will continue to participate in dialogue and learning for this and all of our events.

To learn more, please view Blue Devil Production's open letter to the campus on the right.
