Administrator honored with lifetime recognition award

    Friday, April 26, 2013 | 2:20pm

A UW-Stout administrator has been honored by the Northern Plains Region of the National Association for Campus Activities.

Mary McManus, University Centers assistant director, received the Bud Goldstein Lifetime Member Award during the closing banquet of the NACA conference in St. Paul.

She was recognized for “over two decades of work in the field of campus activities and for her significant contributions to the regional association,” according to the NACA Northern Plains Region. “I am so very honored to be considered for this award,” McManus said, citing Goldstein, an entertainment agent who served the association for many years.

“It was 20 years ago this month that I took on my first volunteer role with NACA. Great colleagues, companions, business partners and friends are the primary outcome of the personal and professional investment in this organization. Even better, the opportunity to work with and in some cases mentor college students, graduate students and new professionals into this field is the generative icing on the cake of my NACA investment,” McManus added.

McManus has a long history of contributions to NACA, taking on numerous volunteer roles over the years and working on important issues. She served as conference coordinator 1994-96 and regional coordinator 1996-99. She also served on the national level as part of the regional coordinators’ council, aided with the sexual harassment policy review process and was part of the National Board of Directors interview team.

On the regional level McManus worked on outreach to two-year schools, engaged staff to consider leadership roles and worked to further recognize associate members in business and industry as full partners in the organization.

Roger Thomas Vrieze, of Mantorville, Minn., took three first places. The categories were: One Color Poster, of the David Remierz concert; Miscellaneous Publicity; and One Color Clothing, for a homecoming T-shirt design, “Channel Your Inner Flannel.” Vrieze is a senior majoring in graphic design.

Liz Schultz, of Franklin, and Leah Mann, of Ashland, took honorable mentions for the Blue Devil Productions website design. Schultz, graphic design, graduated in December. Mann, graphic design and interactive media, is a senior.

“We are so proud of our designers and thrilled by the number of categories that the students’ designs were recognized in,” said Emily Ascher, staff adviser to Blue Devil Productions.

    Tuesday, May 3, 2011 | 4:42pm

Although we were unable to host a large show this semester, we will end the year with a very exclusive, highly anticipated concert. On Tuesday, May 10th, we welcome Motion City Soundtrack's front man Justin Pierre (again!) and his side band Farewell Continental to UW-Stout. This is the band's debut CD release show and the first show of their upcoming spring tour. Celebrate the last day of classes by joining us for this rare intimate performance! Oh and of course it is FREE and open to the public!

    Cinco De Mayo

    Tuesday, May 3, 2011 | 3:47pm

This upcoming Thursday show falls on Cinco De Mayo. We will be celebrating with UW-Stout's Latinos Unidos and UW-Stout's Black Student Union. Starting at 7pm people can enjoy FREE FOOD selected by the Latinos Unidos. This will surely be an event to remember so don't miss out on this year's Cinco De Mayo!

    Stoutnic: Woodstock

    Tuesday, April 26, 2011 | 9:48 pm

As the semester winds down there are still events to come that will wind up the fun! The annual Stoutnic event is this Thursday, April 28th. In honor of the Woodstock theme it will feature Live Band Karaoke and Stout's own Groove Committee. There will also be FREE FOOD and inflatables for your entertainment. According to the weather channel there is a definite possibility of rain, but this won't keep us from partying since the rainsite for this event is the MPR of the Johnsonfield House. Athough we were unable to host a large performance this semester we still have awesome events lined up.

We have a FREE outdoor showing, weather permitting, of the movie No Strings Attached this Friday. The events don't stop there - join us the following Thursday for our last Thursday night show featuring All The Right Moves. Lastly, to end the semester with a bang come out and see Farewell Continental, Justin Pierre's side band, perform the first show of their summer tour! We look forward to seeing all you Stoutonians in these last few weeks and remember to study hard!

    Undie Run = No Meeting

    Monday, April 4, 2011 | 11:36am

Hi folks! Due to Stout's first charity Undie Run tonight, Blue Devil Productions will not host a meeting. Hopefully we will see you out on the race course or cheering on the runners in their underoos! Feel free to join us next Monday to discuss important topics regarding next semesters events and activities. Keep checking back with Blue Devil Productions regarding this semesters larger event!

    The Home Stretch

    Tuesday, March 22, 2011 | 3:27pm

Well hello there fellow Stoutonians! Blue Devil Productions hopes everyone had a stellar spring break and is ready to keep the party going at this week's Thursday show, Mod Sun. The following day we will be showing True Grit and next week we will mix it up with sounds from Electric Children. Although there is roughly one month of school left, Blue Devil Productions is busy planning more comedians, musicians and movies for your enjoyment. Be sure to keep your eyes and ears open in the near future as we will be posting the large semester show soon! Have a fun and safe remainder of the year!

    Donde esta la musica?

    Thursday, February 10, 2011 | 4:59pm

Now you know how to say "where is the music" in spanish! So with that in mind it's time to officially announce that the permanent home for our Thursday night shows is...drum roll please...the Sunken Lounge in the Commons! Because of its ideal location on campus and awesome sunken-ness, we have chosen this place to host our musical guests. Also, since we are clarifying locations, our meetings will offically be held in the Technical Communications Building room 106. The time is the same Mondays at 6 pm just the spot is different. We are looking forward to seeing more faces in new places this semester!

    Welcome Back Stout Students!

    Tuesday, January 25, 2011 | 6:54pm

Blue Devil Productions is busy piecing together a stellar line up of movies, comedians, and musicians for this up coming spring semester. Without the MSC everyone is re-adjusting to the campus. Luckily, this will not put a damper on future awesome events. Our weekly Monday night meetings will now be held in the Tech Comm Building room 106. Our Thursday night shows will most likely find a new home in the Price Commons Sunken Lounge and our first comedian will perform in Micheels Hall room 184. To start things off with a bang we are hosting comedian Rob Little and showing the action movie The Next Three Days next week. Come check out our new locations and entertaining performances in the following weeks!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

    Monday, November 22, 2010 | 1:20pm

We here at BDP hope that everyone at Stout has safe travels and a relaxing thanksgiving break. Rest assured, we have an action packed week ready to go as soon as everyone is back next week.

Right away on Wednesday, December 1 we'll have the biggest music show of the year in the Great Hall as we welcome Motion City Soundtrack! The following night will be one last chance for Stout students to showcase their talents in the final Open Mic of the semester, and capping off the week will be a hilarious comedy film titled The Other Guys. Can't wait to see you all after the break!

The MSC turns 25, lets party!

    Monday, November 15, 2010 | 2:15pm

Do not miss tonight's opportunity to kick off the week long birthday celebration of the Memorial Student Center with Mary Mack in the Great Hall at 8:00pm! Though she started in Nashville, Mary Mack is a mid-western sweetheart who went from being a music teacher to a comedian and folk humorist who travels the country in her 400-dollar Dodge Neon, “Street Heat.” In 2005 Mary won the Funniest Female Contest in California, in the year 2007 she appeared Vancouver Comedy Fest and HBO’s Andy Kaufman Awards, and in 2009 Mary was a part of Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival.

This all led up to Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham and NBC’s Last Comic Standing! So don't miss out on this awesome opportunity to laugh, laugh, laugh.

    We're Back!

    Wednesday, September 1, 2010 | 12:01pm

Students, faculty, staff, may I have the esteemed privilege to present to you the new face of Blue Devil Productions. This summer we have been very busy, rethinking, reanalyzing, reorganizing the way BDP operates and appears on campus. So with the eighth year anniversary of the official formation of Blue Devil Productions, we have redesigned our logo, our website, and the way we operate to better reflect the attitude and direction of UW-Stout's event planning committee, Blue Devil Productions.
